Komatsu America Corp.’s WB146-5 and WB146PS-5 backhoe loaders with Tier II engines have an operating weight in the 16,090 lbs. (7,298 kg) range and have a loader bucket of 1.25 cu. yds. (.9 cu m).

The WB146-5 gets power and fuel economy to drive Komatsu’s HydrauMind hydraulic system from a turbocharged Komatsu S4D102LE-2 engine with a flywheel horsepower of 88 hp (65.6 kW).

The drivetrain includes a 4-speed synchro-shuttle transmission with standard four-wheel drive for greater traction in soft soil applications. The WB146PS-5 includes a full PowerShift transmission with twist grip gear control.

The WB146-5 features a heavy-duty one-piece welded mainframe for stability and durability. The new “S” shaped backhoe boom is narrower and stronger for increased visibility, lifting capacity, truck loading capacity and breakout force. Combine this with a telescopic arm and the backhoe can achieve digging depths up to 18 ft. 4 in. (5.6 m).

The parallel lift linkage for the front loader keeps the load level throughout the lifting and lowering cycles for safe and productive work flow, and with the optional hydraulic attachment coupler, forks can be added for tool carrier operations.

The slim loader arms further enhance operator visibility and allow for easier truck loading. The heavy-duty cast iron nose guard provides both protection for the machine and also acts as an integral counterweight.

The operator environment is designed for maximum comfort and control and is available in either open ROPS canopy or an enclosed cab with dual entry. The climate-controlled cab has 10 vents for maximum air circulation while its round shape and one-piece rear-opening window further enhance operator comfort and visibility. The multiple seat adjustments accommodate both large and small operators and PPC excavator and loader controls provide for greater ease of operation.
